You may wonder how a full-set of speaking questions in IELTS would look like. Here is an example. There are three parts in the speaking Test. On the whole your interview will last for 11-14 min.

1. Ice-Breaking / Warm up / Introduction

    1. Could you tell me your full name please?
    2. How may I call you?
    3. Do you have a hobby?
    4. What do you do during your leisure time?
    5. Do you play sports?
    6. Have you learnt to play any sport when you were young?
    7. Do you think schools should teach children how to play sports?
    8. Can anyone learn to play sports without being trained by a sports teacher?
    9. Can sports be taken as a profession?
    10. What is the scope for sports players in your country?
    11. Are all sports professionals rich?
    12. Have you ever played sports for your school / college / district / state / country?
    13. Does this skill mean significant to you?

2. Long-Turn / Cue-Card

Describe someone who influenced you to buy something

You should also say:

    1. who the person was
    2. what he/she influenced you to buy
    3. when this happened
    4. did you find it useful or not? Why/ Why not?

Follow-up Questions:

  1. Do parents in your country often choose things for their children?
  2. Should children be given a chance to choose things for their own?

3. Two-way Discussion

You may get two rounds of topics in this part of the speaking test.

Purpose of festivals and celebrations

    1. Why do you think festivals are important events in the academic/working year?
    2. Would you agree that the true significance of festivals is often lost today?
    3. Is it good or bad, do you think?
    4. Do you think that new festivals will be introduced in the future? What kind?

Festivals and the media

    1. What role does the media play in festivals, do you think?
    2. Do you think it's good or bad to watch festivals on TV? Why?
    3. How may globalization affect different festivals around the world?
